Skelly and Loy offers a myriad of engineering, environmental, and operational services to the utility industries. While our primary focus had been providing mining engineering services to coal-fired electric utilities since the early 1970s, we have expanded our portfolio and experience to include many additional services to the utility industries. Skelly and Loy remains a recognized leader in providing coal-related services to electric utilities. Those services include coal supply and supplier investigations (geological and reserve confirmation, coal quality assessments, mine plans, production costs, due diligence, government imposition claims), fuel procurement and contract strategies, transportation alternatives, and ash handling. As Skelly and Loy continues to provide services of this nature, we recognize that utility companies have a growing need for other services in which our firm is experienced. Our expanded services include wetland/watercourse identifications and delineations, mitigation services, threatened and endangered species coordination and surveys, agency coordination (state and federal), and a full gamut of environmental permitting. Many of these services are performed to meet specific requirements of transmission and distribution construction associated with the electric utility and gas and oil industries. Skelly and Loy’s ash services include design of containment structures, construction management (material handling and placement), leachate management system design and construction, and closure services. Skelly and Loy offers TenCate GeoDetect®, a proven sensor-enabled geotextile system for monitoring critical earth structures. Skelly and Loy also provides comprehensive services for potable water and wastewater systems including treatment/conveyance system design and permitting, installation, and operations/maintenance. We also provide turnkey stormwater infiltration services including site soil testing, design, and installation.
