National Register Evaluations

Skelly and Loy’s professional Historians, Architectural Historians, and Archaeologists have completed National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility assessments for thousands of resources and nearly every imaginable resource type. The NRHP is the Nation’s official list of historic places that are worthy of preservation. It has well-codified standards and criteria for the assessment of historic properties and archaeological sites according to both their integrity and significance. A resource’s eligibility for listing in the NRHP can be evaluated to acknowledge a historically significant resource, to obtain tax credits for the rehabilitation of a historic property, or to comply with federal laws that consider impacts to cultural resources.

At Skelly and Loy, we have a thorough understanding of the NRHP standards as well as the requirements of various State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs), which are charged with the review of eligibility evaluations. Our expertise ensures that Skelly and Loy’s clients receive a thoughtful and thorough assessment of NRHP eligibility that fulfills all NRHP and regulatory agency standards and protocols. We have evaluated standard resource types in the residential, agricultural, industrial, and commercial spheres as well as African-American districts and resources, traditional cultural places, rural historic landscapes, and post-war suburban housing developments.

Our Cultural Resources professionals apply the same rigorous standards when preparing NRHP and National Historic Landmark (NHL) nominations. In recognition of our expertise in preparing NRHP nominations and other documentations, Skelly and Loy personnel have served on the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Board which reviews applications to the NRHP.
